À l’∞

Kinetic light video installation (2014-2017)
487 LED, microcontroller, wood, metal and custom electronic componants.
66” x 42” x 53”

À l’∞ is a kinetic and light installation made up of a LED matrix. A human form, very pixelated, with indecipherable features, is drawn on this DIY screen. This character walks nonstop. Sometimes crouching, sometimes walking proudly with raised arms, this pixel figure walks at a steady pace. Between two stages of movement, this human form swings into a fight to achieve an impossible balance.

In reality, the human form walks in place within the screen space, but the rotating motion of the screen, activated by a motor, gives the impression that it is walking in circles in the real space. The installation is in the center of the gallery, so that spectators can walk around it. When the viewers look at the installation, they cannot see all the images unless they are constantly moving and following the rotating movement. In this way, I place the viewers in a position where they have to choose between being active and seeing the totality of the images or being passive and imagining how the human form has evolved through each of the stages.
